As stated in an earlier article, “The Importance of Warming Up Before Exercise“, I discussed the benefits of warming up pre- and post workout sessions. Muscles should be warmed up prior to working out because exercising cold muscles can be damaging to your body. A great way to warm up is through stretching.
Stretching does the following:
1) warms muscles
2) prepares muscles for the movements
3) prevents injuries
Stretching involves two different types – dynamic and static. Dynamic stretches are ideal to do pre-workout. With these stretches, a full range of motion is used instead of holding the stretch.

FINAL FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Warming up is extremely beneficial so that we don’t cause injury to ourselves. Stretching is beneficial as a part of warming up. The thing to remember about stretching is that there are two kinds – dynamic and static. Dynamic stretches are beneficial before pre-workout and involve a full range of motion.
