Running is still a popular trend. It is good for our body and keeps us healthy. According to Sports & Fitness, 64 million people went jogging or running in 2016. There is no doubt – we’re a nation who enjoys running and it’s easy to see why. Running doesn’t need expensive memberships or equipment. While a decent pair of running shoes can make a difference, you can get started right away. While it has many benefits, something to ask yourself is where are you running?

Where you choose can have more impact than you’d think which is why we’re going to look at the pros and cons of three leading choices below:

1. On the Road
It’s not unusual to see joggers on the side of the road and it’s easy to see why. Roadside running is an easy and convenient option. After all, most of us live by roads or streets with sidewalks. What’s more, road running offers a great outdoors feel. Running on the road gives you an opportunity to see all types of sights and sounds as well as enjoy great weather.

On the other hand, there are a few other factors to keep in mind. For instance, safety matters with vehicles. You should always run facing traffic. Also, hard road surfaces could damage your joints unless you invest in shock absorbent shoes. But, if you take care of these issues, there’s no reason running on the road can’t be a good choice for you.

2. In the Park
You'll get traffic-free running in the parkPark running is perhaps the second most popular option. If you’re lucky enough to live near a nice local park, you may want to give it a try. This option has obvious benefits such as the chance to run on a softer surface.  For the most part, this choice  includes safety benefits because you won’t have to worry about traffic.

However, running here won’t always be a walk in the park. Bear in mind that you may run the risk of dog walkers. That could prove a bit risky on its own. Dog bites aren’t unusual, and if that happens to you, you’d need to spend time finding the right attorney, rather than focusing on your running and that’s not going to help you get fit!

3. On the Track
Most towns also have a track, either at a local school or sport’s center. Running on the track has various benefits, and is worth looking into. The flooring will be designed specifically for running.

The down side to running on a track my be it can be a bit monotonous since you are running around the same loop lap after lap.  Plus, track settings aren’t always the most attractive.

Obviously, if you live in  area that has inclement weather during  the winter months,  running on a treadmill has its advantages. You definitely don’t have to worry about the weather while running inside on a treadmill. The treadmill will be easier on your joints, so you don’t have to worry about injuries as when running on the road.

The down side is that running on a treadmill can get dull. Making sure you have a great playlist to keep you pumped is necessary.

Running is a popular and great way to lose weight and stay in shape. However, you need to decide where you are going to run. Take all the above factors into account, and decide which setting will be more suitable for you.   1. I really hate running, however, I know it is great for weight loss. I have a treadmill at home and really should make use of it to try running. Do you have any good ideas for where to start with running on a treadmill?

    1. Megan, thank you for stopping by my site and for the comments. If you really want to start running, get your favorite playlist on your phone and start with interval training on your treadmill. Start out by walking then increase your speed. If you take it a little bit at a time, it may help you get into running. I hope this helps.
